The Tuscan Maremma and its excellent produce is ready to participate in the Italian expedition about to land directly in Hong Kong: from 6 to 9 of May, the eastern metropolis is home, in the halls of its Convention and Exhibition Centre, to the activities of the 16th round of the Hofex Fair, a biennial event that, together (with alternate frequency) with the FHA Fair in Singapore, is the main showcase for the agro-food and beverages sector in the Asian Pacific Area (in 2013 it was attended by over 37,817 visitors).
Large numbers that, in recent years, have accompanied Italian initiatives on the territorial chessboard (the 2012-13 biennium saw Italian sector exports to China reach nearly 248 million Euros, an increase of 11. 5% and with further positive projections for the near future), which our Country is going to exploit for the obvious potential of that trade route; and in such a “game” both Tuscany and in particular the Maremma intend to be key players.
The Grossetano, with its many branches and vocations (from the fishing industry of Argentario to forestry on Mount Amiata), is in fact conscious of representing – in the field of gastronomy and typical specialities – a treasure trove of traditions on the rise in view of the audience of players and fans of the product quality. It aims, under Asian direction, to play its cards with incisiveness.
On the subject of wine, for example, among the names present in Hong Kong we will have the established and prestigious MorisFarm: the vineyard which produces the well-known super Tuscan Avvoltore will bring the appeal of the debut of a new label: the Barnaspinosa, a red based on Sangiovese (90%) with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), matured for 12 months in oak barrels and aged for 4 in the bottle.
The Barnaspinosa – ruby coloured , famous olfactory taste of berries, tobacco and balsamic essences from the woods – is a candidate to be the calling card for the entire wine-growing district to which it belongs, the Doc denomination of “Monteregio of Massa Marittima” which, established in 1994, is today one of the symbols of quality of Maremma wine that have gradually joined (resulting in increasing interest) the historical reality of the Docg denomination Morellino di Scansano (Doc approved as early as 1978). Specifically, the products of the Monteregio area qualify for a propensity, dictated on the whole by the characteristics of the soil, to give the Sangiovese a blood-like consistency, tenacious, and marked by a special streak of rustic warmth.
Putting the spotlight on MorisFarm and Monteregio wines will be the brand distributor Bottega Toscana, which works for the promotion of artisan production and family niches within the Hong Kong scenario: rare food produce not easily available beyond the borders of its own region. Besides the nectar of Bacchus, Bottega Toscana will bring to the Hofex Fair specialities, for example, such as Maremma buffalo cheese a dairy Hymn to the Sun; spaghetti and other pasta creations of historical pasta manufacturer Chelucci of Piteccio (Pistoia); biscuits and cantuccini of Forno Vannini of Calenzano (Florence).
